Deep Snow at Big Virginia Lake

Big Virginia Lake

In mid-May, 2017, after a winter with more than twice the normal precipitation in the central Sierra Nevada, Big Virginia Lake was still covered with ice and snow.

Several summer homes near the north side of the lake were still buried deep in snow— except for a bit of the roof at one end, and a chimney at the other.

I look forward to hiking up Virginia Creek later this year, but Trumbull Lake Campground won’t be open until August!
