Ever since my earliest visits to the Sierra Nevada and the California deserts, I’ve enjoyed looking closely at the shapes of different landscapes and wondering how they came to look the way they do. This fascination fueled my later love affairs with plant geography, landscape ecology, and especially geomorphology. I think it helps one find some interesting photographs as well. These twisted strata are in the Garfield Hills, south of Luning, east of Hawthorne, Nevada.
