Chicago: Looking Down

The Sears Tower (now the Willis Tower, due to a change in ownership several years ago) was the world’s tallest building from 1974 to 1998. It remains the tallest building in the United States.  After buying tickets and waiting in a long line in the basement, one can zoom up to the Skydeck on the 103rd floor in a 1-minute elevator ride.

Last year the Skydeck was renovated to include retractable glass boxes that extend several feet out from the west wall of the Skydeck.

You can step into these boxes and look …

.

… straight down, 1,353 feet to Wacker Drive …

.

… and take pictures of your kids standing high above every other rooftop in the city.
