The cliff formations at Red Rock Canyon State Park are as impressive up close as they are from a distance.  Some of them resemble the formations in limestone caverns.  But this is eroding sandstone, not accreting carbonate.  These cliffs echo during the day with the calls of swifts, and at night with the hoots of owls.
